We would like to begin the year by promoting health awareness and home safety for our students. This month's featured manuals are Health Stories and the Health Stories Workbook. You can have a great impact on the health and well-being of students and their families by using these materials for your lesson plans. These manuals have great stories regarding common illnesses, medications, developing healthy habits and the US health care system. It is "survival English" in its essence! We hope that you find these materials to be helpful for your lessons. If you would like advice about how to use these materials with a lower-level learner or are looking for more advanced health-related materials, please get in touch with your contact at the ESL Center.
The ESLC also recently acquired a Home Safety ESL curriculum developed by ProLiteracy and the Home Safety Council. It is another great resource in promoting the health and well-being of ESLC students. This curriculum includes lessons on smoke alarms, fire drills, emergency preparedness, and more.
