ESLC Annual Picnic

Our annual ESLC picnic has come and gone, but we wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who attended for participating in such a fun event.  There were many activities that occur in a short amount of time: filling out a meal ticket survey, trying new food, recognizing the ESLC Board of Directors, playing bocce ball, enjoying the music walk, winning prizes and finally – playing bingo!

As I looked around the pavilion I was amazed to see the integration that exists in Salt Lake City. People from all different background, from different circumstances and different ages were able to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company – regardless of their English skill level.

A thought from Marilyn, one of our volunteers: Please tell everyone that had a hand in the picnic Tuesday that it was very much appreciated.  Zahida and her two children and I had a great time. Zahida and her son Umair were going up to people they didn't know and asking them the questions on the meal ticket and I was so excited they could do that.  What a wonderful idea!  I wish Arif (Zahida’s husband) could have been there.

Also, the food was very delicious.  I didn't try everything, but what I had was so good.  One dish I decided was my favorite Zahida told me was named Sumali and from Pakistan.  On the way back to their apartment, Umair showed me where I can buy some and I will go back and get some to share with my family.

Zahida's favorite part of the night was watching her children have fun playing the Music Walk.  I thought that was fun also.  Thank you all for a delightful evening.
