ESLC Research

The ESLC is looking forward to beginning our research on the best methods of teaching Adult Emergent Readers (students who are not literate in any language). Earlier this year the ESLC was awarded a research grant from the University of Utah and we will be working with professors and students of the University's Linguistics Department to implement our research. The ESLC is making the final decisions on hiring two research grant instructors who will teach four classes using the two different methods that we are comparing to determine best practices. Each of the four classes will be 3 hours a week and will last for 6 months. At the end of the research project, we plan to use the results of the research to develop our own curriculum to provide to volunteers who are working with Adult Emergent Readers.
