Sponsorship Opportunities at the ESLC

For $100 you can subsidize the cost of a single volunteer to be trained to be an ESL tutor.  Our professional staff provides a 12 hour training class sharing information about adult learning styles, language acquisition techniques, goal setting and lesson planning in order to be successful tutors for our students.

A gift of $250 will purchase materials for approximately 25 students for one year of English language instruction. Students use picture dictionaries, workbooks, and are given tests to determine their initial level of English proficiency and to measure their progress after 65 hours of tutoring.

$500 will cover the cost of operating our ESL computer lab for one month. In that time we provide 65 hours of instruction for at least 10 students/day Students practice English with several levels of language acquisition software and receive tutoring in basic computer programs. The lab is open with an instructor to assist students four days a week with daytime and evening hours.

For $1,000 you can support the cost to recruit, train, and supervise one volunteer for a year. The volunteer you support will complete our training class and then be matched with an individual or small group of immigrants or refugees with extremely limited English proficiency. In the coming year, that volunteer will typically spend 150 hours, preparing English lessons which address the immediate needs of our English language learners, helping them in their daily lives with tasks such as preparing for a job interview, helping their child with homework, interacting with their child’s teacher, going to the doctor, or getting a drivers license.

A gift of $5,000 will help us to support one-half of the salary of an AmeriCorps volunteer. This nationally recognized service program has enable us to hire outstanding project coordinators who bring enthusiasm and experience to our staff, supporting our volunteers and students with the serious  dedication and commitment they deserve.
