The Refugee Services office of the Department of Workforce Services is offering a conference this month as an “opportunity for refugee community stakeholders to engage in a dialogue and share information.”

There will be classes for refugee providers (you, if you’re teaching refugees or have a desire to help refugees in the area) and employers of refugees, and there will be panel discussions and lots of information about local resources to help you to serve refugees that you know. Refugees are also welcome to attend and learn about more local resources and ways to help their communities.

It will be November 14th and 15th at the Salt Lake City University Park on 480 Wakara Way. The cost is $20, and scholarships are available for refugees wanting to attend. We are very excited about our upcoming citizenship event on Saturday, November 22^nd from 10:00-11:30 here at ESLC. If you are currently (or have been in the past) involved with helping someone pass the citizenship test we would like to encourage you and your student to attend.

w to practice for the interview portion of the test. As well, Jean Bingham will present on how she helped her Afghani students prepare for and pass the test.

The Empowering Parents Program has been a great success this year. We have been having celebration parties at all of the participating schools to give the parents a certificate & supplies to study English over the summer break. We are currently at Jackson, Lincoln, Mt. View & Butterfield Canyon Elementary Schools as well as Northwest Milddle School.
