The English Skills Learning Center is currently hiring for two positions.
Volunteer Coordinator
The English Skills Learning Center (ESLC) is accepting applications for a Volunteer Coordinator who will help to recruit, train, supervise and support our fantastic volunteer teachers and tutors of English. The ESLC is a non-profit organization committed to bring the promise of integration, security and empowerment to adult immigrants and refugees in Salt Lake City. Our program is unique in offering a realistic alternative to traditional ESL classes. We train volunteers to provide individual tutoring and small group instruction to help adults with very limited literacy skills. Our program brings English instruction to our students and accomodates our students’ individual learning needs.
Responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator will include:
Recruits volunteers by responding to website submissions, and creates viable on-going training pool. Participates in volunteer fairs, and help establish a presence with volunteer-oriented community groups.
Assist Program Manager and other staff by participating in volunteer training class held 6-8 times a year.
Collects data on tutors and students, including volunteer hours, students test scores, and instructional hours, and enters them in databases. Generates student/tutor statistical reports and data needed for grant reporting.
Encourages participation in on-going workshops and in-services. Organizes volunteer activities to promote sharing and support between volunteers helping to create specific training sections pertaining to volunteer assignments.
Helps to coordinate student/tutor matches, including student assessment (testing) and recommending appropriate volunteer tutor materials.
The position is three-quarter time (approximately 30 hours/week) with occasional evening and weekend hours required. Possible AmeriCorps funding to include educational benefits.
Applicants should have extensive experience working with volunteers in community based programs and have significant experience working with lower-income families. Relevant inter-cultural skills in communication and service are necessary.
Preference will be given to applicants with ESL teaching experience and proficiency in Spanish.

Computer Literacy Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides English as a Second Language instruction and support for the computer literacy activities of the English Skills Learning Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage all student related aspects of the computer literacy instruction including:
Develop individual Student Education Occupation Plans (SEOP) and appropriate curricula for Computer Literacy programs
Assess and measure progress of students
Maintain computers and software programs as needed.
Perform regular observations and consultations with students to determine that goals and needs are being addressed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience teaching or tutoring English as a Second Language.
Extensive knowledge of computer applications, including software, hardware, and networking protocols.
Above average ability to communicate verbally and in writing with diverse individuals.
CONTRACT: 10-12 hours per week, including some evenings. Hourly wage to be determined based upon qualifications.
