Find the right volunteer opportunity for you in a community English class! ESLC Volunteers can participate in many different roles. Volunteers may be lead teachers or assist another teacher in class. We provide high-quality, free English language learning programs to low-income adult immigrants and refugees. Improving English language skills allows students to break through language and cultural barriers, which will ultimately improve their quality of life and strengthen our community as a whole.
You can help break language and cultural barriers in the community by volunteering with the ESLC!

Literacy Classroom Assistant
Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-3:30 pm
Classroom assistants provide support to lead instructors with one-on-one and small group work. Volunteers in this capacity will be working with community members who are buiding foundational literacy skills and learning English at the same time.
Murray and Sugar House Areas
Empowering Parents
Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 am-10:00 am
Volunteer in this family literacy focused class, assisting parents and caregivers in supporting their child's education while learning English language skills! Learn more about the Empowering Parents program here.
Glendale Area
Life Skills
Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 am-11:00 am
Lead engaging discussions in a Culture & Conversation class. In this course, participants explore language related to everyday happenings. Topics include clothing, current events, careers, and more! Learn more about the Life Skills program here.
South Salt Lake Area
Life Skills
Tuesday & Thursday 10:00 am-11:30 am
Come work with dedicated learners in a beginning level class. This Life Skills class introduces topics used in everyday interactions! Participants practice English skills needed to navigate shopping, appointments, money, and more! Learn more about the Life Skills program.
West Valley Area

Thursday 6:00 pm-7:30 pm

Latter-day Saint Humanitarian Center
Monday-Friday 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Join a unique workplace training and English language learning program for immigrants and refugees in Salt Lake. In this program, students choose English classes offered in their workplace that correspond with their life and career goals. Volunteers in this program teach two classes, each lasting one hour. one day per week. Learn more about the Humanitarian Center program here.
