
English for healthcare careers
This curriculum is targeted towards internationally trained healthcare professionals seeking to enter into or advance in the healthcare field in the U.S. The curriculum, developed by the English Skills Learning Center, came out of a partnership with The Center of Economic Opportunity and Belonging, Proxima, Salt Lake Community College, Granite Peaks, and the International Rescue Committee. The curriculum is for students with a background in healthcare and/or an NRS reading level 4. The course is intended to be 10 weeks with 10 hours of instruction and 2 hours of independent study per week. The course provides English language instruction with a healthcare focus by covering reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills relevant to a healthcare career as well as some fundamental healthcare vocabulary. This curriculum is intended to be used by anyone looking to provide a healthcare-focused English class; it provides lesson plans with clear instructions as well as materials/attachments needed for the course.
