The ESLC community is mourning the loss of a longtime volunteer, Judy Taylor (1949–2025). Before joining the ESLC team, Judy built a meaningful career as a teacher of gifted and talented children, and she was well known for her commitment to learners who needed additional support in the classroom. Education was at the center of her life, and she carried that commitment forward in every space she entered.
At the ESLC, Judy became a steady presence in classrooms and at events. She volunteered generously, supported learners with patience, and offered help wherever it was needed. Her involvement strengthened our programs and contributed to the welcoming environment we strive to create.
Judy was also well known for her sense of humor and her genuine kindness. She never spoke unkindly about anyone, and she brought lightness into every class she taught. She once shared that her students affectionately called her the “Oh No teacher” because whenever she made a mistake, she’d laugh and say, “Oh no, you need a new teacher! I made a mistake!” Her humility and playfulness reminded everyone that learning is a joyful, human process, and her students loved her for it.
Earlier this year, Judy was honored with the Golden Hourglass Award for logging the most volunteer hours during the school year. The recognition reflected the dedication she showed throughout her time with us.
To Judy’s family and friends, we share our deepest condolences. Thank you for allowing her to invest so much of her time and energy in the ESLC community. Her work made a lasting impact, and she will be remembered with appreciation.
Rest in peace, Judy.
