Since 2009, the Latter-Day Saints Humanitarian Center has partnered with a variety of local organizations in the state of Utah to help immigrants and refugees gain new job skills while also participating in English language classes in a work-based training program.
Instructors and Volunteers from the English Skills Learning Center provide 70 hours of instruction in small group classes each week at the Humanitarian Center, teaching a variety of class topics such as health literacy, civics, life skills English, and preparation for the written knowledge portion of the Utah Driver License Exam. The goal for the end of the program is that participants can be more independent and have better skills to improve and maintain future employment opportunities.
The amazing Volunteer Teachers at the Humanitarian Center created food baskets for HC students and arranged to have them delivered to their homes as they couldn't have their annual holiday party due to the pandemic.
