FAQ about citizenship classes:

What do the classes cost?

The classes are free.

Do you have in person classes?

Yes. There are currently two in-person classes. One class meets in the morning and the other class meets in the evening. There is another class currently online using Facebook.  They are like Zoom classes (in Facebook Rooms) once or twice a week for speaking practice with your teacher and other students.

How can I join the class?

Message us and we will set up an appointment for you to register. Registration takes about 1 to 1.5 hours in our office or virtually.  You will need to bring your green card to registration.

Do I have to apply for citizenship before I join the class?

No, that isn’t necessary but our class is for people who intend to apply very soon.  To apply for citizenship, you must be a lawful permanent resident for 5 years or 3 years through marriage.

Do I need to have a computer to join the class?

To join the online class, you will need to have a computer, laptop, or tablet that is connected to the internet.  You can also use your smartphone but a computer is better.  Since the online class is through Facebook Learning Groups, you will need to have or open a Facebook account.

What days and time are the classes?

You can participate in the online lessons any day and time that is convenient for you.  The lessons are videos that you can watch and quizzes you can take whenever you want. The in-person classes meet Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:30 - 12:00pm or Monday and Wednesdays 6 - 8:30 pm.

What if I have a question or don’t understand something?

You can communicate with the teacher by Facebook messenger.  We can also give you a phone number so you can call or text.  Or you can communicate by email.  We will give you this information when your register.

My English is not very good.  Is that a problem?

The citizenship test and interview are in English.  If you are not confident in your skills, you can join the speaking practice sessions we have mentioned. ESLC also has English language classes that you can join. The best thing for you to do is to work on your English skills as soon as you can.
