Workplace Literacy

The English Skills Learning Center has several years of experience providing on-site English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Our classes are taught by certified and experienced teachers. Usual topics of focus are customer service, professional telephone etiquette, understanding machinery instructions, and effective communication with supervisors. With your input, we can tailor a curriculum specifically to meet the needs of your organization.

Why offer Workplace English classes to your employees?

The U.S. Department of Education has identified numerous advantages of workplace English programs, including

  • increased company profitability
  • enhanced corporate image
  • reduced error rate
  • improved employee morale
  • improved understanding of organizational culture
  • improved capacity to solve problems
  • higher success rate in promoting and transferring employees within the organization

Please refer to www.work-basedlearning.org for the complete list.

Why choose the ESL Center for your Workplace English classes?

The ESL Center has offered on-site workplace English classes throughout the Salt Lake valley since 2007. We have served companies such as Wal-Mart, backcountry.com, and Deseret Industries. Pre-testing and post-testing show that students consistently make considerable gains.
We recommend classes that are six months in length, as this is the usual amount of time it takes for an ESL student to advance one level in proficiency. Two class sessions a week that are an hour each, usually at the beginning or end of a workshift, are convenient for employers and employees alike.
